Education Welfare Service (EWS)operates under the Education (Welfare) Act, 2000, a piece of legislation that emphasises the promotion of school attendance, participation and retention. Educational Welfare Officers (EWOs) of the Child and Family Agency work with young people and their families who are experiencing difficulty with school attendance. The role of an EWO is to work with parents, children/young people and schools to support attendance at school.
