A monthly peer support group meeting of kinship carers is a gathering where people who are raising children on behalf of relatives or close family friends (instead of the children’s birth parents) come together to support one another.
These groups are designed to provide:
- Emotional support – A safe space to share experiences, challenges, and feelings with others who truly understand what it’s like to be a kinship carer.
- Practical advice – Exchanging tips on parenting, dealing with schools, health services, social workers, or legal matters.
- Information sharing – Learning about financial support, training, or local resources available to kinship carers.
- Connection – Reducing feelings of isolation by building friendships with others in similar circumstances.
- Guest speakers and workshops – Meetings may occasionally include professionals or self-care/wellbeing and relaxation activities
In short, it’s a support circle that helps kinship carers feel less alone, better informed, and more confident in their caregiving role.
Our next meeting is on Monday 29th June, 2026.
